I help develop student teacher working relationships by greeting each student at the door in Spanish a la Harry Wong.  In this way I can see who is up and who is down before class starts.  I also can tell who feels comfortable speaking Spanish, who needs help speaking Spanish, and who is ready for additional vocabulary and new material. 

By greeting everyone individually, he or she knows that I know that I have noticed his presence and that I am glad that he or she is here.
